LOCATION
Located in peaceful and beautiful Herne Bay, yet close to Auckland city centre. Unlike noisy Viaduct Basin - the old America's Cup village - with its late-night cafes and entertainment, this is the preferred rental location for those who like easy access to the city for business and entertainment, and peace and quiet when they return to their accommodation to sleep and relax.
Auckland
Auckland is for most visitors to New Zealand their point of arrival, with its international airport just across the fine natural harbour from the city centre to the South. While Auckland ceded its political capital status to Wellington many years ago, it remains the 'commercial' capital of New Zealand and with a population of over 1 million, it is home to 25% of the population.
The city centre is on the South side of the natural inlet that is spanned by Harbour bridge. The rental apartment is located in the suburb of Herne Bay to the West of the city centre, Newmarket is to the South and Parnell to the East.
Auckland is a maritime city, and water plays a large part in its commercial and social life. There are numerous marinas where yachts, sailing and pleasure craft of all kinds can be seen, and many activities revolve around water - or just above, if you include bungy jumping from Harbour Bridge!
Auckland museum
The Auckland Museum houses items of Maori culture, natural world exhibits and a section dedicated to the part New Zealanders have played in conflicts around the world.
Auckland Art Gallery
The Auckland Art gallery is home to the most extensive collection of national and international art in New Zealand. The art is split between two main buildings. Displays includes permanent collections as well as international touring exhibitions. Numerous private art galleries can be found in the vicinity of the gallery.
Sky Tower
Dominating the Auckland city skyline at a height of over 320m is the Sky Tower. Well worth a visit to its observation deck to get your bearings - or loose them, depending how your head is for heights - an you can recover your composure in one of the many cafes and restaurants in the locality.
Activities
Although this is a major city, it remains very close to the outdoor life. Therefore, the range activities beyond the cultural will appeal to everyone from the mildly active to the true outward bound adventurer, possibly as a warm-up for the the extreme sports on offer around Queensland on the South Island.
Sailing
Cruises - inner harbour and ocean trips
Swimming and water sports
Bungy jumping off Harbour Bridge
Tramping (hiking or rambling) - Mt Eden is close by, and one of the many volcanic cones in the vicinity of Auckland.
Waitakere Ranges National Park
Tramping, or hiking (rambling) is an important aspect of any visit to New Zealand, and wonderful tramping territory is on the doorstep of Auckland.
Head West out of Auckland, and in surprisingly little time (around an hour or less) and you will find yourself in a rain-forested wilderness. Piha Beach is a surfer's favourite, although the ocean currents are strong. Trees fringing the edge of beautiful beaches, and inland the Kauri forests delight hikers with tall New Zealand ferns and waterfalls. Indeed, the waterfall and swimming hole at Karekare is so beautiful that it is sometimes used as a romantic backdrop for wedding photographs.
The small town of Titirangi is a good place to find B&B accommodation or a rental chalet, and home to a thriving artists community where the original art for sale solves the problem of what gifts to take home after a business trip or holiday in New Zealand.
Hobbiton pictures. Hobbiton was home to Frodo and Sam of the Shire. The Lord of the Rings film location for Hobbiton was MataMata, South of Auckland on the North Island of New Zealand.
