There is very little sand at all on Tenerife: it is a volcanic island
and is mostly volcanic ash or cinders along the coastal path with outcrops of rocks or pebbles going down to the sea (for instance Pebble Beach . . . ). Having said that many people sunbathe on the rocks and children often play on the pebbles though sandy it is not -- sand has to be imported from the Sarah desert to make beaches on Tenerife!!
